What to do After a Car Accident
Police Response Time
Fender Bender - What Now?
You might have heard that the Springfield Police will not respond to a non-injury car accident. While an efficient move, this has left many people with questions.
So what has changed? Not much.
Do what you would normally after a car accident. Make sure you and your passengers are not hurt. Afterward, turn your engine off and your emergency lights on.
Now call the police. They still need to know about the crash. For crashes on private property, you might be asked to come to the station to provide information.
Exchange information with the other driver. Most everyone has a cell phone these days, so use this to your advantage. Take as many photos as you can, both of the damage and the other driver’s license and insurance information. All of this will be useful when filing your insurance claim.
The Springfield Police Department encourages you to call them if you are unsure of the steps to take. Do not hesitate to call if you are in an accident. They are here to help.
