Why OEM Parts?

Hammer’s Autoworks is an OEM certified auto body repair shop Springfield, MO.

What does OEM mean, exactly?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. When we say we’re OEM certified, that means we have been certified by the car manufacturer to make automotive repairs, using their recommended procedures and their parts. For example, if you drive a Honda Civic, we will fix your car with Honda parts made for your specific vehicle, so your original OEM warranty will remain intact after the auto repair.

Why does OEM certification matter?

The alternative to OEM parts would be aftermarket auto parts. Aftermarket parts are mass produced by third parties, typically overseas. They are made specifically to be cheaper, but do this by sacrificing quality. With aftermarket auto parts, there’s almost always fit and finish issues. Aftermarket parts are NOT crash tested, and therefore create serious safety concerns.

Auto part quality could cost you

Insurance companies recommend aftermarket parts only because these auto parts are cheaper. But as we all know, cheap doesn't usually mean good. The aftermarket part might be made with lower quality materials, leading to issues down the line. These car parts rarely come with a warranty, unlike OEM parts, and can also have a negative impact on your trade-in value.

Automotive supplier accountability

Since OEM parts are those that come from the car manufacturer, we know where to go if an issue arises with one of their auto parts. The same cannot be said for aftermarket car parts, which can come from anywhere, although they are typically made in countries that have very cheap labor.

Bottom-line for aftermarket parts

According to The Simple Dollar, 80% of auto body shops use aftermarket parts. Some auto body shops get incentives from insurance companies to do so. Hammer’s Autoworks, however, is committed to restoring your vehicle to pristine condition, which means trusting automotive parts we know will fit and function as they should. This helps preserve the vehicle’s value and maintains your safety and the safety of others in your car and on the road.
